    Grooming Tips: Manx

    Manx

The first step in preparing a Manx for a show is to comb out the loose hair with a metal comb. Then clip the nails. Manx should be bathed the day before the show. Some coats tend to be greasy. Use Dawn dish soap to remove the grease from the coat. Next use a good color enhancing shampoo. With each step during the bath it is important to throughly rinse the coat several times to be sure all of the soap is out of the coat. Use a final rinse to assure all of the soap is out. Mix 2 TBS of white vinegar in 2 quarts of water. To give the coat a little boost use Nexus Ensue, then rinse again.

Drying a Manx coat does take a long time because of their dense double coat. It is best to blow dry while combing the coat in the opposite direction. Air drying does not work well on the Manx coat. When the coat is almost dry, comb in the direction the hair grows.

During the show if the coat needs some touch-up or freshing use Redken Phinal Phase. Mix 1 Tbsp to 2 cups water. Pour the mixture into a small spray bottle for show use. Spray the mixture lightly on the coat then gently comb the hair. Usually a Manx does not require a second bath during the show unless you are showing a white Manx. Sometimes they will need another bath if they get dirty from litter or in the motel room.
