CFA International Cat Show

'BEST IN SHOW' NAMED AT CFA INTERNATIONAL CAT SHOW IN ANAHEIM, NOVEMBER 1996

CFA International ShowThe fourth annual CFA International Show was recently held at the Anaheim Convention Center, just a few blocks from world-famous Disneyland. This year's show attracted 1144 entries making it the second largest CFA show ever held (behind the 1995 CFA International Show held in Chicago).

As has been customary, the show was a three-day event with six specialty judging rings. The judges were selected by a ballot of all CFA clubs. Entries had to qualify by attending one of nine qualifying shows held in October in the eight CFA regions as well as in the International Division.

Leopard's Inc.The show had plenty of competition in every category, more than 75 vendors to tempt anyone's wallet, and the largest gate to ever attend an International/Invitational Show. A special treat, sponsored by The Iams Company, was Leopard's Inc. who had a display of their wild cats in the lobby of the showhall.

The show was a class affair all the way: the top notch showhall was decorated with taste; the 150,000 square feet easily handled all those exhibits, booths, and the gate; the nearby Marriott bent over backwards to be accommodating; and the extras such as the educational ring made this show one to remember.

Floral DecorationsThe exhibitors proved this truly was an international show, with many flying to the show from various parts of the world. For example, the Best Longhair Kitten came from Belgium; a cat from Japan tied for the Best Sable Burmese in Championship with a cat from Florida. The highest scoring Tabby Persian and the Best Parti-Color Persian in Championship were from France. Many other international entries were among the winners at this year's show.

At the conclusion of judging on Sunday, a special presentation was made to the Best and Second Best of each breed or division in all three categories: Kitten, Championship and Premiership. The Top Five were also announced for Longhair Kittens, Shorthair Kittens, Longhair in Championship and Shorthair in Championship, Longhair in Premiership and Shorthair in Premiership.

Three of the twelve judges were selected, by a drawing of names, to determine the overall Best in Show Winner. This year, that award went to:

GC Agonistes Commotion of Scrimshaw
Black Persian Male
Best in Show Rosette Best in Show Winner
