"BEST IN SHOW" NAMED AT CFA INTERNATIONAL CAT SHOW IN SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA, ON NOVEMBER 20, 2005
Winners Chosen From 823 Pedigreed Felines
(San Mateo, CA) - November 20, 2005 - One-O-One Mascalzone Latino, a Black Exotic Male cat owned by Marcella Marenco of Finale Ligure, Italy, was named "Best-in-Show" from a field of 823 pedigreed felines showcased at the 18th annual Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) International Cat Show held November 18-20, 2005 in San Mateo, California at the San Mateo County Expo Center. This is the first time in the 18 year history of the CFA International Cat Show that a cat from outside of the United States has won the coveted "Best-in-Show" title.
"This year's "Best-in-Show" cat comes extremely close to meeting the written standards for the Exotic breed," said Pam DelaBar, president of the CFA. "Competition was fierce this year, but he really earned the title with his wonderful presentation." Comparable to the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in terms of pedigreed prestige, the CFA International Cat Show is the largest cat show event in the Western Hemisphere. The 2006 CFA International Cat Show will be held in San Mateo again next year. "The CFA is very happy to be in San Mateo this year," said DelaBar. "From the overwhelmingly positive response to the show, it's clear that the Bay Area loves cats. This was one of the best shows we've ever had." The "Best-in-Show" cat, a one year five month old Exotic male that was also chosen Best Longhair in Championship, was named from a field of the show's top six longhair and shorthair felines in three categories: Championship, Kittens and Premiership (neutered males/spayed females). Judges also selected the Best of Breed cats in each of the 50 pedigreed breeds and divisions in competition. The show's other top five winning cats are:
Best Shorthair Kitten
Best Longhair Kitten
Best Shorthair Championship
Best Longhair Premiership
Best Shorthair Premiership
The CFA International Cat Show benefits the Winn Feline Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to the support of feline health-related studies. Related Link
